Overview
CIS Tender 6 – WEM Dispatchable is complete. Outcomes have been announced by the Australian Government, subject to negotiations and contract execution between project proponents and the Australian Government.
The Minister for Climate Change and Energy has selected 3 projects, which will provide 3,683 MWh of dispatchable capacity to the WEM. The selected projects are expected to deliver 1.5x the 2,400 MWh tender target.
About this tender
CIS Tender 6 – WEM Dispatchable opened on 29 August 2025 and sought an indicative 2,400 MWh of dispatchable capacity across the WEM. Projects were required to be located in Western Australia (WA) and connect or intend to connect to the South-West Interconnected System (SWIS).

Benefits of the selected projects
The successful projects will deliver 3,683 MWh of dispatchable storage, which is enough to power over 250,000 homes in WA per year when cycled daily.
Successful projects demonstrated strong local community and First Nations engagement against the assessment criteria, with meaningful contractually binding social licence commitments. The selected projects are set to deliver:
- Around $8.6 million of shared benefits for local communities.
- $67.3 million worth of initiatives for local First Nations groups.
- Over $985 million in local content.

About AEMO and ASL’s role
AEMO and ASL have been engaged to support the roll-out of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), bringing together expertise in energy markets, modelling and infrastructure finance and procurement.
ASL administers the competitive tender process and makes recommendations to the Australian Government on which projects should be awarded CISAs. The Minister for Climate Change and Energy is the ultimate decision maker on which projects are successful.
