Six projects representing 1.17GW (11.98 GWh) of long duration storage have received Long-Term Energy Service Agreements (LTESAs) following ASL’s competitive tender assessment process.

Successful projects include six Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) which each have storage capacity equivalent to 8 hours’ duration or more.

More information on the successful projects and the assessment of bids for Tender Round 6 is available in the NSW Roadmap Tender 6 Market Briefing Note.

Project name Proponent Technology Capacity Nominal storage duration
Ebor BESS Bridge Energy Lithium-ion BESS 100 MW / 870 MWh 8.7 hours
Bowmans Creek BESS Ark Energy Lithium-ion BESS 250 MW / 2,414 MWh 9.7 hours
Armidale East BESS FRV Services Australia Lithium-ion BESS 158 MW / 1,440 MWh 9.1 hours
Bannaby BESS BW ESS Australia Lithium-ion BESS 233 MW / 2,676 MWh 11.5 hours
Kingswood BESS Iberdrola Australia Lithium-ion BESS 100 MW / 1,080 MWh 10.8 hours
Great Western Battery Neoen Australia Lithium-ion BESS 330 MW / 3,500 MWh 10.6 hours

The Tender Round 6 LDS projects mark a milestone for the state’s minimum objectives, with enough capacity now secured to meet the Roadmap’s legislated Minimum Objective of delivering 2 GW of LDS by 2030 and 28 GWh by 2034.

These outcomes also mark strong progress towards the 42 GWh required by 2034 under ASL’s Ambition scenario set in the 2025 Infrastructure Investment Objectives Report. As Minimum Objectives only, NSW is continuing to invest in long duration storage and will deliver further long duration storage tenders.

Benefits of LTESA Awarded Projects

  • Consumer value: the successful projects offer enduring financial benefits for electricity users in NSW, including competitive pricing with limited cost exposure, minimal to no departure from the pro-forma contract risk allocation, deliver strong market advantages, and broad social license commitments.
  • Energy delivery: Collectively, the awarded projects have a combined capacity of 1,170 MW, equivalent to about 9% of NSW’s peak demand.
  • System strength: the successful projects enhance the resilience and stability of the NSW energy grid by providing additional storage and dispatch capabilities, as well as providing essential services such as frequency regulation, voltage support, and system restart functions.
